The culture at ARIUMae is not common in design firms.   Establishing the basis for that culture starts during the job interview.  Prospective team members are told about two seemingly contrasting ideas.  First, they are told that they will be judged on their ability to "replace" the owners of the firm.  The demand for personal responsibility and focus in the office is very high.   Second the prospect is also told that they should also have a rich life that happens outside of the office.  The expectation is that their work should be pretty far down the list of life priorities.   On a day to day basis, these two concepts have many expressions.   Working beyond 40 hours is discouraged.   Taking advantage of the health benefit that is offered to swim or play tennis at lunch or during off hours is encouraged.   Being available to clients is encouraged.  Staying up all night to finish a project is discouraged.   Participating in the office birthday celebrations or happy hours is encouraged.  Wasting time is discouraged. The culture at ARIUMae is about quiet intensity.  It is about the long term benefits of a balanced life for the firm and for the team members.  The idea is to balance the year... work with passion for 22 percent or 1,925 hours  so that you can thrive and celebrate during the other 78 percent or 6,835 hours.
