Arium AE is proud to contribute to our region’s advancement by designing two new Mass Timber and Cross-Laminated Timber (CLT) buildings in Maryland.
We are collaborating with our client and partners on a two-story multifamily and retail building that spans 42,600 square feet. The first floor will be dedicated to retail, while the second floor will contain apartments. Adjacent to this project, there will be a three-story office building covering 17,600 square feet. The first two floors will feature a showroom and flex space, while the top floor will be designated for office use. These projects will showcase the beauty and structural ingenuity of the CLT system.
Mass Timber and Cross-Laminated Timber (CLT) construction have gained popularity in Europe and on the West Coast in recent years. The Mid-Atlantic region is now catching up, with notable projects such as Under Armour’s Headquarters, 40TEN in Baltimore, and the Discovery Meadows Child Development Center in Gaithersburg. Research has shown that the biophilic connection to nature provided by CLT enhances human comfort and environmental experience. Furthermore, its structural integrity, sustainability, and fire-resistant properties make it a smart choice for building design.
